5 Apps to Help You Prepare for Tax Season- Does the word “taxes” automatically fill you with dread? Taxes can be stressful and, if you’re not organized or prepared, a downright nightmare (especially if you do them yourself). Even if you hire a professional to do your taxes, a shoebox stuffed full of receipts isn’t exactly helpful in making the process smooth. Thankfully, technology such as smartphone apps is making staying organized and on top of your financial information easier than ever.

 

Below are a few of our favorite apps to make doing your taxes a little bit easier. Best of luck!

 

  1. 1. ShoeBoxed – No more worrying about losing important receipts or scrambling to find the one lost in the depths of your closet. With ShoeBoxed, you simply take a photo of your receipt and upload it to the app, where you can keep them nice and organized.
  3. 2. TaxCaster – Want to guesstimate if you’ll owe money or receive a refund this year? TaxCaster lets you input the basics of your information to get an overview of your taxes. Then, maybe start planning your vacation…or your next big purchase.
  5. 3. TurboTax SnapTax – You can file your taxes straight from your smartphone. No, really. This app from TurboTax uploads a picture of your W2 and fills out the paperwork for you. Gotta love technology.
    1. 4. Expensify – Do you travel a lot for work, or simply have a lot of work-related expenses? Expensify can keep track of your receipts, mileage or time, and create expense reports.
    3. 5. iDonatedIt – Donations can be a big tax deduction, but it can be difficult to remember when exactly you donated some items or how much the donation is worth? This app helps you keep track of these donations in a detailed record, then it sends an email with a report to yourself or your accountant when the time comes to prepare your taxes.
