Spring Gardening Tips

 

It’s the best time of the year – springtime! You might check out your garden after a long, cold winter, and be frightened at the “damage” from the extreme weather; however, there is always a way to get it back to looking as beautiful and full as ever. Here are five spring gardening tips that you need to know about.

 

Assess the area

You  never really know what kind of an effect the weather can have on your garden over the winter, so take a while to assess the garden. It will help give you an idea of what things you may need to buy if you don’t already have them on hand.

 

Check your supplies

Nothing is worse than having to run back and forth to the store for things that you need. Make an inventory of all of your supplies, so you know exactly what you have and what you might need. It sounds like a miniscule task, but you’ll appreciate not having to make extra trips for something you knew you needed in the first place.

 

Ease in

If you’ve started your plants indoors, make sure you ease into putting them in your outdoor garden. Don’t just immediately put them outside. Place them in a sunny area for a couple of hours the first day, a little bit more on the second day, and so on and so forth. The plants have a better chance of continuing to thrive if they’re eased into their new environment.

 

Keep on watering

Don’t just water the surface of the soil, water deeply to make sure the plant is getting enough nutrients. Remember not to water the foliage, as to reduce the chances of foliar diseases.

 

Rotation

Don’t grow your crops in the same place they were last year, rotate them to a new spot in the garden. This helps to reduce the chance of certain diseases catching onto your plants or crops, which live in the soil.
