Tips For Painting Walls, Windows and DoorsPainting the rooms in your home is a great way to bring them up-to-date, without spending a ton of money. You don’t have to be a professional to paint the walls, windows and doors in your home, often the hardest part will be deciding what color to choose. Here are five tips for painting the walls, windows and doors in your home.

Fill Holes

If your surfaces haven’t been treated in a while, there may be some holes, or just normal wear and tear. Fill the holes and cracks with spackle and even out. This will be the best time to do so, especially if you need to spot-prime, or prime the entire wall, depending on your preference.

Find the Right Primer

Depending on what is currently on the wall or door that you’re trying to paint, you may need to prime it before you add your chosen color. Once you’ve primed, allow it to dry overnight and then you’ll be set to begin painting. Remember, it’s not always necessary to prime – if the surface is already in good condition.

Doors

Painting doors can either be really simple, or tricky, depending on the type of door. For flush doors, with smooth and flat surfaces, you can use a roller or normal brush. For doors with panels, start with the inset panels at the top, and work your way from top to bottom.

Ceiling

Painting the ceiling seems like a daunting task, but it isn’t so difficult once you break it up into sections in your head. Paint around the edges with a brush or pad and wipe away any access that made its way onto the wall with a rag. Then, starting in one corner, make your way across the room with a roller brush.

Window

Before you paint the window, make sure you remove any hardware that may be attached. Open the window and be sure to not paint over any of the hinges. Keep the window open until the paint is dry, to ensure that there are no cracks or smears.
